Competitive Player Assessment Information

Our Approach to Player Assessments

Player development and appropriate team placement are at the heart of our competitive program. To support this, all players are evaluated continuously throughout the season by the Team Head Coach, Technical Lead, and Sporting Director. In addition to this ongoing evaluation, one formal in-season assessment report will be shared with families. Formal player assessments will be shared with players and their parents/guardians before the end of each season by their team head coach.

This approach allows for a more comprehensive and unbiased assessment process, giving coaches the opportunity to evaluate each player fairly, in all areas relevant to our Club standards. It ensures that players are placed at an appropriate level for the following season based on their development and performance over time.

New Players

• New Players must register for a “New Player assessment”
• New Players are considered:
• Anyone new to the Club
• Current NHSC Recreational Players
• Returning NHSC Competitive Players who have been away from the Club for more than one season
• Once you have registered for a New Player Assessment, a coach from the appropriate age group will contact you with an invitation to attend three training sessions with an existing team in that age group.
• Following their 3 assessment sessions, new players may be invited to additional assessment sessions if deemed necessary by the coaches, Technical Lead, or Sporting Director, for further assessment; or they will be provided with a competitive team registration offer or recreational registration recommendation.
• The initial summer team assessment period for new players begins March 1, while the winter team assessment period officially begins September 1

New Player assessment registration will remain open and in-season assessments for these players will continue throughout the season, as long as spaces remain available for full-time or training-only participation with a team in your age group. New Player Assessment Registrations will be closed when an age group is full.

Players currently registered to a competitive team, should not register for player assessments as they will receive a placement offer at the end of the current season.

Assessment Schedules

At NHSC, we don’t hold traditional tryouts on a fixed assessment schedule. Instead, we integrate interested players into regular team training sessions with our existing teams. This allows coaches to assess players in a real training environment alongside players of a similar age and level, while giving prospective players an opportunity to experience our training environment and club culture.

Because individual team training schedules vary, there is no single assessment date or schedule for New Player Assessments in a given age group.
