LKP Fall Recreational

The Nepean Hotspurs offers the opportunity for youth players aged 3 to 16, to participate in recreational soccer as part of its “Let the Kids Play Program” (LKP). LKP focuses on developing each player's physical, technical/tactical, and social/emotional skills. Our program incorporates the Long-Term Player Development model adopted from Soccer Canada aimed to develop the complete athlete.

2026 Program

  • Program session dates: August 29, September 5, 12, 19, 26, & October 3
  • All participants receive a program t-shirt
  • All sessions are held at the Charmaine Hooper Soccer Fields (MAP).

Our Player-Focused Approach to Development

All fall programming is held once-a-week on Saturdays and is the perfect program for players who are new to the game of soccer, or who are looking to further develop their soccer skills. Each session will be between 45-55 minutes, depending on the age of the player. All players will be placed in their age groups based on their calendar year of birth.

Throughout the program if our coaches determine that a players' development level does not match their chronological age grouping it will be recommended that they be moved to a more appropriate development grouping. Through this approach we will ensure ALL PLAYERS HAVE THE BEST CHANCE OF SUCCESS IN SOCCER by tailoring training, competition and coaching to their needs at their appropriate stage of development.

Attempts will be made to limit group sizes in each age group to a maximum of 12 players.

Program Curriculum

Coaches are provided with age and development-appropriate curriculums to guide their sessions each week.  All sessions will include player development activities and will conclude a small-sided game. Games may be intra or inter-squad.

To align with the Canada Soccer Development Matrix, boys and girls U4 and U5 groups have 45-minute sessions while all other age groups have 55-minute sessions.

What you Need

Your child will be provided with a program t-shirt.  Your child must wear shin pads, and cleats or running shoes. Please also ensure that your child has plenty of water or hydrating fluids at each and every session.

Weather Policies

The sessions will proceed in rain or shine; however, if the weather is unsafe (such as thunderstorms) the LKP coordinator will make the decision at the field whether to cancel the session. We follow the Soccer Canada Lightning Safety/ Severe Weather Policy

Sessions will only be canceled for heat/humidex if the forecasted temperature (from Environment Canada) at your scheduled session time start is predicted to be in excess of 37 degrees Celsius or humidex of 39 degrees Celsius.

Decisions will be made shortly after noon on weekdays and by 8:00am on Saturdays. Decisions to cancel sessions will be communicated with coaches and all participants. On hot days, where sessions are not canceled, coaches will provide additional water breaks during your sessions.

If the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) is projected to be 8 or higher at session time, then sessions will be cancelled. Decisions on AQHI cancellations will be made after noon on weekdays, and by 8:00am on Saturdays. Decisions to cancel sessions will be communicated with coaches and all participants.

Please note that for sessions canceled due to unsafe weather conditions there will be no rescheduled sessions or refunds.
