The Hotspurs competitive program is for players who are looking for advanced training and wanting to learn in a competitive environment. The program is delivered by our qualified coaches who, following the long term player development model, focus on game-like activities so players are improving their skills while developing in a game like environment.
We have had a lot of success, over the years, with developing our players through our grassroots program and have every expectation that we will continue to do so. Our teams compete in the ERSL (East Region Soccer League). The players at this age group will play 9 v 9 games against other clubs in Ottawa and the surrounding region. NOTE: The game format for the upcoming season may be changed to 7v7 based upon COVID19 restrictions regarding league play. Teams may have opportunities to play in various festivals that are held in the EODSA district (Eastern Ontario District Soccer Association). Festival opportunities are dependent upon the COVID restrictions that will be in place for the summer 2021 season.
Pre-season Training & Evaluation Period for 2021:
The period from the last week of April and the first 2 weeks of May will be used evaluate and sort out returning players who have participated in the winter development programs and new players who chose not to participate in the winter programs. At the end of this period players will be placed on the appropriate skill level teams at the Premier, Development 1 or Development 2 level of play. Cost of Evaluation and pre-season training is $60.00
This link will take you to the page on the ERSL website where you can see which days of the week each age group will play their games on. We are still awaiting direction as to when the summer league will officially start. This is usually the end of May, but may be delayed due to COVID restrictions. Game day will be a third training session until league play commences.
Training will commence the third week of May outdoors. Once teams are formed the team coach/team manager will meet with the parent group to review the expectations for how the season will progress and confirm the schedule for training days. Competitive teams train twice a week and play one game a week. Game day will be a third training session until league play commences. Each training session will be 1.5 hours in length. Training sessions at this level will consist of technical and skill activities as well as small-sided games. The small- sided games continue to introduce the system of play, introduce team shape and team balance.
