During the weekend of February 13/14 the Nepean Hotspurs BU12 T1 Red Devils skipped out on Valentine’s Day celebrations to represent the club, parents, families and friends as the only Ontario team competing in the ARS Laval National Invitational BU12 Division A grouping. Out of a solid group of 8 teams competing for glory, the Red Devils came out flying and set the bar high as they embarked on an new adventure.

Knowing the competition would be strong and that every effort from the players needed to be at 100%, the parents, team management and coaching staff kept the boys focused and readied for the tasks at hand.

The first day of competition placed the Red Devils in a strong group of contenders for round robin play. The first game matched the Devils up against the ASM MASCOUCHE team who proved to be a challenge right out of the gate. Falling behind early in the match 2-0, the Red Devils finally bought into the new system of play as developed by the club’s elite coaching staff, and never looked back. The final score of the game was 5-3 and set the team up for the next match a few hours later.

The second clash against CS ST-LAZARE HUDSON provided the Red Devils with a chance to really see how the new methodologies and principles of play can provide best options and a chance to compete at the right level. Scoring in the first 2 minutes of the game, the Red Devils remained organized and focused on the plan. A final score of 3-1 placed the Red Devils as Group leaders heading into the final round robin game on Sunday.

Early on Sunday morning, knowing that a win in the final round robin game would set them up as not only the top seed in the group but also as the team to beat, the Red Devils set its sights on achieving great success. Facing CS CHOMEDEY the Red Devils never let up and were relentless in their attack while maintaining a superb defensive front. Quick paced play and tremendous creativity saw the Devils up 3-0 in the first 10 minutes of play. Adding a last minute 4th goal to the score sheet the Red Devils remained undefeated in round robin play and earned a top seed spot as the division leaders.

The Devils had to face a very organized and talented group in the semi-final game with a cross over match against the other pool’s 2nd ranked team. Drawing on the work and focus during training over the winter through the club’s top development programs, the Dollard Dragons could not contain the speed, creativity and passion of the Red Devils and within 20 minutes of play, the Devils were up 5-0. Offensively, the Dragons could not muster any pressure in the attacking third and thus ended up on their heels all game trying to stifle the counter attack of the Red Devils. The final whistle blew and the Devils remained perfect.

In a tilt with the only team who managed to get ahead of the team, the Nepean Hotspurs BU12 T1 Red Devils were matched up against the first team they faced in the weekend. The ASM MASCOUCHE team managed to beat the other group’s top ranked team and thus set us up for a clash of the two titans. Early on, the teams exchanged chances and stellar goal keeping kept the two teams at a scoreless draw. A free kick from the 20 yard mark 18 minutes into the game proved to be the deciding marker as the ball ripped into the top right corner. An insurance tap in at the 30 minute vaulted the Nepean Hotspurs BU12 T1 Red Devils as tournament champs.

Special thanks to all the families, friends and relatives who made the trip to celebrate, cheer and encourage the boys to greatness. The Nepean Hotspurs Soccer Club thanks you for representing the club, city and the team with grace, dignity and passion. Special thanks go out to Team Head Coach Robert Peixoto, and National Licensed Top Gun Coach Duane Barker for their passion and dedication to seeing the boys succeed, and to team Manager Sandra McMaster for her tireless work and efforts in helping keep everyone organized and on track.
